Why Solosnake?

In ~1995 my best mate Dom and I were tired of everyday life. We decided to go off and travel around for a bit in Central America. Not knowing what to expect, and intending to spend some time in the jungles there, we invested in some kit. I bought the necessary and useful kit like water purifiers and multi-fuel stoves. Dom bought 'shiny' kit. One piece of equipment Dom bought was an E.Pe.R.B., an Emergency Personal Rescue Beacon. Although strictly intended only for shipping use, it functions on land also. When activated, it broadcasts a signal on an internationally agreed emergency channel. Part of its signal is intended to contain information useful to the rescuing parties. Dom decided our EPeRb should broadcast 'KOBRATEAM,2 men'. And so KOBRATEAM was born, although back then it was COBRATEAM. We never needed to use the beacon in the end, and its sitting in a cupboard in London until the day KOBRATEAM can afford a yacht.

Later, my wife set up an e-mail account for me with Hotmail. Even then it was hard to get a good original name without having to append a number to it. Given that I was in KOBRATEAM, then a lone member of KOBRATEAM must be a solo snake. She created solosnake@hotmail.com I liked it and have used it since then.

K O B R A T E A MBoth members of KOBRATEAM regularly undertake hazardous missions on behalf of Red Storm's Rainbow 6, and can be seen in this rare photo covering their arcs in a hostile land. Solosnake (Kobra 2) is on the left, and Dom (Kobra 1) right. More recently 'Ghost Recon' has been our battleground of choice.

Who is Solosnake?

Solosnake is Dáire Stockdale. I am currently working as a computer games programmer for Codemasters, England, and learning to be a tattoo artist in my spare time. Before this I worked at Vis Entertainment in Dundee, Scotland. I graduated from Computer Games Technology at the University of Abertay Dundee. For two years before that I was a student of computing science at the University of Aberdeen. Before that I was a Royal Marine, and before that I was in the French Foreign Legion for a short time. Neither was really what I wanted: both promised a lot but actually delivered very little.
